General Guidelines

Some instructions about this site and learning Unreal Engine in general:

  • This is a portal to Unreal Engine tutorials and instructions. They are hosted elsewhere, we do not host tutorials, this is just a portal.
  • We link only to tutorials that are about Unreal Engine, at least on some level. We may link to tutorials that explain how to use some other software or tool (e.g. Substance Designer, Houdini, MODO, 3DS Max, Blender etc.) with Unreal Engine. But in general, it has to be about Unreal Engine mainly.
  • We try to post links to tutorials and instructions that are not covered in official documentation, are hard to find, or provide clever ways to achieve good results in UE. Of course, you can find eventually all of them with search engines, but it may take some time and effort. This portal tries to collect those links to useful stuff in one place.
  • Some of the linked tutorials are quite new, some of them could be couple of years old. Being old does not mean that it is obsolete. Quite contrary, some things have not changed much in UE. Besides, some of us may use older versions of UE.
  • Remember, that any tutorial may provide important info to solve some problem, but it may need some extra work to apply for your situation due to different engine version etc. Do not expect them to solve your problem immediately. Try to understand the principle and then do it yourself your way.
  • Also, any one tutorial may not be a perfect or only solution. As such it may not even be suitable for your project. But it may be a good starting point to think out your own solution. Try to keep an open mind.
  • Some tutorials may present quite advanced methods. Do not try to just copy them if you do not understand how they work. Otherwise you may encounter later many problems that you are unable to solve.
  • Trying and making errors is probably the best way to learn. Try different solutions, modify the code, materials etc to see what happens. Quite often you will suddenly find a totally new perspective on otherwise familiar stuff.
  • Why there is no link to tutorial on subject X or Y? Well, there could be several reasons. Perhaps there is no adequate or good tutorial on that subject. Perhaps it is already covered in documentation (we do not put here links to specific subjects on UE documentation). It is also possible that we just have not noticed it (you can give us a tip about useful tutorials e.g. in Discord or through Contact page).
